This Physical Therapist Wants You to Reimagine Your Career
“When I first learned about Luna, I was immediately intrigued. I knew that this was the future of physical therapy and that I wanted to be a part of it.” - Ashley, DPT and Recruiter at Luna
This is Ashley. She’s a DPT who recently accepted a full-time recruiting position as a recruiter with Luna. After working in a traditional physical therapy clinic, Ashley was introduced to Luna (fell in love!) and now spends her time spreading the word to other physical therapists. We recently had the chance to sit down with Ashley and learn more about her journey.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your background as a physical therapist.
I’ve always been a very active person. Working out has always made me feel more motivated and dedicated to my health, school, and personal relationships. I graduated from Cleveland State University in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in health science and my doctorate.
What drew you to become a physical therapist initially?
I’d never experienced physical therapy, but I remember a moment in college when I was walking through my dorm and saw a flier about the physical therapy program. I’d been going back and forth between a few different career paths, but I knew in that moment that this is what I was going to do.
Where were you at in your career before learning about Luna?
I was working at a family-owned clinic here in Cleveland for a while. The people were great, and it was a good experience, but it was time for me to make a change. My long-time boyfriend had moved to Nashville, and because of my commitment at the clinic, I couldn’t visit him very often. Luna offered me a unique opportunity to treat patients on my schedule.
How did you hear about Luna? What drew you to learn more about the company?
When I first learned about Luna, I was immediately intrigued. I knew that this was the future of physical therapy and that I wanted to be a part of it. The flexibility and potential to speed up the documentation process were exciting to me.
Tell us a bit about your current role with Luna.
I’m a recruiter at Luna. I get to talk to physical therapists from all over the country and help them reimagine what’s possible for them and their careers. Recruiting for Luna is awesome because it’s something I really believe can change therapists’ lives. It really is just a matter of educating them on what’s possible. Once therapists know that this is an option, it’s kind of like a no-brainer for them to give it a try.
What do you want other physical therapists to know about Luna?
Luna can make your life easier, help you gain a healthier work-life balance, and restore your passion for being a physical therapist. The burnout you may be feeling in your current role makes sense, and if you’re feeling stuck, Luna is something to consider. You can work when you want and take time off when you need to. The technology also allows you to specify your patient population so you can work with the types of patients you’re really interested in serving.
What is the greatest reward of your work with Luna?
The most rewarding part of my work is helping therapists realize that they can take control of their careers. Many of the people I talk to are moms who want to work but need that flexibility. Others are people like me who are in long-distance relationships or are taking care of family members who live far away and need the ability to work on and off. A lot of the therapists I talk to don’t know about Luna or that having this kind of freedom and flexibility is possible. I love spreading the word.
What’s the best thing about being a Luna physical therapist?
In my opinion, it’s the connections you get to make with your patients. In a lot of traditional clinics, you’re juggling multiple patients at once. With Luna, you get nearly an hour with each patient per session. You really get to know your patients, hear their stories, and learn about their unique perspective on life. Luna’s technology makes everything so much more convenient and helps your patients commit to their care plans. It helps PTs make a bigger impact.
What’s the one thing you want physical therapists to know about Luna?
If you’re considering getting started with Luna, go for it! There’s no risk to trying it out and seeing how you like it. You can start with just a couple of patients for a week and build from there if you want to. Even that is flexible, and you can take time off if or when you need to. Whether you’re looking for supplemental income or want to reimagine your career completely, Luna’s platform can help you make it happen.
